Missing Lola - A Cat Poem

Missing Lola

I wake up every morning
Expecting there to see
You sleeping soundly on my chest
Where you always use to be.

I go to fill the water bowls
And look to find you there
But once again I don’t see you
I look for you everywhere.

Then I think as I prepare the food
“She will come and eat for sure”
Yet once again you are not there
Your memory is clear and pure.

I go about my daily task
I move from room to room
I often think I will find you there
Hopefully, very soon.

I cannot seem to grasp the thought
That you are truly gone.
You left my life so suddenly
Like missing the end of a song.

The other cats sense that I am sad
They try to comfort me
They cuddle here upon my lap
But my “Lola” I do not see

And then I see your little URN
Displayed for all to see
I know you are here in spirit
and you’d never willingly leave me.

I try to pass the lonely hours
And somewhat try to smile
With loving memories of you
It helps for just awhile.

Then at night I go to bed
And lay my weary head down
I call to you “ come here Lola”
When you don’t come, I frown.

I know that you are better off
And not in any pain
But missing you is what I do
My tears fall like warm rain.

And so my Lola, I want to say
I miss you every day.
No matter how I try to smile
It just doesn’t happen that way.

Your memory rests inside my heart
Forever it will be
A part of me and in my life
For everyone to see.

I wish you peace, dear Lola girl
Inside of Heavens gate.
Please know one day I will meet you there
I know that you will wait.

What a lovely poem Mary. It really touched my heart. I'm sure that anyone who has ever lost a cat will know just how you feel.
