Missy finds a home - A Cat Poem

by tom herzberg
(saginaw, mi)

A wandering kitty took herself a home
in a barn where she thought she'd be all alone.
the sun was setting on that late fall day,
she crept very gently onto a new bale of hay.
she curled up tight with her tail on her chin,
dreaming what cats dream when they begin.
she drifted off sleeping with barley a purr,
the light of the moon cast a veil on her fur.
But farms as they are someone is always up,
the night owl, the mice, the loud barking pup.
but of all the disturbance that came that night,
one especially gave our little kitty a fright!
An old tom it seems was the proprietor there,
he was just as surprised to see kittys stare.
"Don't be afraid, little missy" he meowed,
"You can stay here, and be part of the crowd"
We have horses, and goats and chickens you see,
but you'll have to work, you're stay won't be free.
you will be expected to catch mice on the run,
but don' worry little missy, we do have some fun.
And who knows, maybe in a year or two,
we just might have more lil' kitties like you!"
