Momma cat loosing fur

by Mary Lynne
(Goodman, MO)

My momma cat has three patches of hair missing and is shedding pretty bad. She is nursing four kittens which are 4 1/2 weeks old.

Why might she be loosing fur. Also, what can I feed her for her to produce more milk. It seem her mild is decreasing.

Hi sounds to me like your cat is suffering from a nutritioanl defeciatcy possibly casued by having the kittens and not getting the right food or she is suffering from an illness which is preventing her body from being able to extract the nutrients from her food.

If I were you and because she has just given birth and it is very important not only for her health but also the kittens, I would get her to a vet as soon as possible to have her checked out. He will be able to advise whether she has an underlining illness or if she is just under nourished etc.

You may have to suppliment the kittens food in the mean time to help them thrive.

I have several pages about cat food and nutrion and also about bringing up kittens which you may find of further interest here are the pages
