My cat has six claws on each front paw

by Jim

Why does my tabby cat have a sixth nail on both of his front feet? It is between his 1st and 2nd nails (like thumb and index finger). It grows much faster than the other nails and will actually start to curve into a circle if I don't watch it closely. Very strange!!!!!!!

Hi
some cats have six toes they are called Polydactyl cats.

It may be that your cat has extremely small sixth toes and so this causes the nail to grow badly and curl under. your cat will need to have these claws clipped regularly to prevent them curling under and growing into the skin. I assume you are probably already doing this. However here is a page about claw clipping for further information.
