I have a 4yr old tom cat. Normall short haired cat. For the past 6 mths i have noticed his hair loss all around his rear end, his back legs and now going up his back. Went to the vets about 6mths ago they gave him a steroid injection but everything has been the same. His skin underneath looks fine, no marks, cannot see any bites, he doesnt seem to itching anymore than usual there but he has started to smell!. He smells off poo and its becoming awful. Have ou any idea what this could be???

Much appreciated, i hope you can help

Answer from KAte
He may be smelling of poo because he is not feeling well and is perhaps not cleaning himself as well as he should.

The trouble with fur loss is that it can be down to all sorts of different things from anxiety to parasites and even allergies. The vet should really be looking in to other possibilities if the steroids aren't working. Perhaps doing some more tests etc to find the cause.

i have some pages on my site here which you may find of further interest and help with this condition

I hope a solution can be found for him soon, poor guy.

best wishes Kate
