My Cat is Scabby, bleeding, and losing hair

My 6 month old kitten bernard has just recently got some scabs around his neck. Within a week he licked all the hair off around his neck and it's constantly bleeding from him licking and scratching it. I brought him to the vet and they think its a bacterial infection and put him on antibiotics. he's been on them for 4 days now, and he's still licking and scratching himself. Im really worried about him, do you know what it could be?

well the vets are best placed to diagnose this issue and if they don't think it is caused by fleas or a collar then their diagnosis is probably right. Antibiotics need at least seven days to work before anything else can be done. you could telephone the vets to ask them if there is any cream they would recommend to ease any soreness on the neck in the meantime.

if things do not improve after 8 to 9 days then consult your vet again, he may prescribe more antibiotics, some infections can be stubborn.

best wishes kate
