My cat seems thirsty but doesn't go for a drink

My cat will lay beside me and be falling asleep, he will smack his mouth...its weird. It's like he is thirsty, but idk why he just doesn't get up and drink.

Hi I know what you mean my cat does this too sometimes. I'm not too sure if they are actually thirsty or whether it is connected with dreaming about drinking or eating.
I wonder if they are sort of half a sleep and thinking about food etc and this causes them to smack their lips.

I do know that smacking of lips can also mean that they may be feeling sick and are about to vomit. However this would happen throughout the day and not just when they are falling asleep etc.
