my cat suddenly peeing outside litter tray

by Maureen
(San Diego)

I have 2 cats who have been sharing the same litter box for almost a year. Recently, one of the cats started peeing outside the box. I made sure the box was cleaned every day. I switched back to the old litter. I gave him his own box. He's still peeing outside of it. I took him to the vet to check for a UTI but the vet said he's fine.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to stop this? Any idea what the problem could be?

Help!!

Thanks

Hi
I think he may need some time alone with his new tray in a smaller area so that he can calm down and relax again.

often this sort of behavior is caused because the cat is anxious about something.

The best way to help a cat when this happens is to take them through a period of confinement litter training which is described here.

With a little patience I'm sure he will stop this behavior soon. At least you know he is not unwell.

best wishes Kate
