my cat wont eat his food

by Rowena
(London)

Hi

My cat seems fine, except over the past 2 days he has stopped eating his dry food ( mixture of Purina ( for treat ) and Royal Canine ( main diet ).
He has also become very clingy.
Drinks fine, goes out as normal.
Not playing as much as he did.
He is neutered and 4 years old
Likes going outside when no-one is around ...and this habit has not changed.
He is half Main coon cat. not really moulting more than normal, so no hair ball issue.

Many thanks

Rowena

Hi
It may simple be that he has gone off of this food. Cats do like to change diets occasionally, see this for more on this

However he may have a tummy upset or other illness. Your bets option is to keep an eye on him over the next few days, he can go without food for many days but he must drink plenty of water so that he does not become dehydrated.

Hopefully it is just a bug that will pass and he will begin to eat again soon. If not then you will need to have him looked at by a vet. He may have problems with his teeth or mouth which may make it uncomfortable for him to eat. A vet will be able to check all possibilities .

Hope he is ok again soon
