my frightened cat doesn't like people

my cat does not like to be held but at night she will curl up on my lap .also she is scared of other people who visit.

this is not unusual behavior, some cats are just more nervous than others. Sometimes it is down to previous life experiences and other times it is simply a personality trait.

my kitten samson was like that didnt like being picked up but would sit with us .it was my 10 year old daughter that got him used to being picked up .she would just pick him up for second then put him down and every time she picked him up she would try and pick him up longer .that seemed to help for us
