My new cat get's aggresive at night..why??

I got a cat (male tabby, 7-9 mos old) from a friend & he seems laid back when I come home from work & we play abit, but around 9pm when I finally sit down to watch TV & relax, he starts getting all wound up, running around the apt & kind of aggresive. Why is that? I'm too tired at that time to play. What do I do? it's actually kind of scary, because I don't know him well yet. Please help!!

Thank You,
Daryl

Hi
you did not mention if he is neutered or not. if he is not then this would defiantely help to calm him down as at his present age he is full of hormones which can cause him to act aggressively if he becomes frustrated.

If he is neutered then it sounds to me like a young cat full of energy which he cannot let off. Kittens and young cats especially need lots of things to keep them entertained and stimulated, they need things to climb on, play with i.e hunting behaviour etc

If you find his behaviour a little worrying around you, perhaps you could set up a special room for him at this time which is full of things for him to play with and explore, (see this page on my site for some ideas https://www.our-happy-cat.com/indoor-cats.html

best wishes kate
