new, one year old cat to share same house with 8 year old cat (both neutered females)

How can we introduce a new cat to an older cat who thinks the house is all hers? They arch and hiss at one another even though they are still separated. We want them to share the same house freely.

you need to take both cats through a period of introduction, whereby they can get to know each other and become familiar with scents etc but without the fear of attack. the process can take a little time and effort but can be beneficial in the long run. however there are no guarantees that the two cats will ever get along i'm afraid.
