OLD CAT WITH HEAD IN WATER DISH

by Lenore
(Ronkonkoma)

Our cat is 16 years old and keeps laying with his head in and around the water dish and puts his paw in the water dish, what does this mean? He has also lost weight over the past year.

Hi
It means he is very old and could be suffering from an illness which makes him feel very thirsty all the time and perhaps being near his water is a comfort for him.

It is very difficult to say but the fact that he has also lost weight suggests that he certainly needs to see a vet as soon as possible. It could be a thyroid issue, a heart problem or even a tumour. Hopefully it is something treatable like a thyroid condition where weight loss is one of the first visible signs, as well as excessive thirst.

Take him to the vets as soon as possible to give him the best chance as well as putting your mind at rest. worry is a terrible thing.

best wishes Kate
