Outside cat now wants to be inside

My kitty, Midnight, had been an indoor cat until we moved in 2004. He became an outdoor cat and didn't want to be in the house anymore. Well the last 2 days he has been meowing like crazy to be in doors. He never wanted to be indoors before. The sad thing is my father is allergic to him and he lives with me now. Am worried something is wrong, he nevered meowed excessively like that and when he does come in he refuses to go out and it is so difficult to get him outside. What is wrong?
Could someone let me know? July 3rd was his birthday and he turn 10!

Hi
Unfortunately it is impossible to say with any certainty what could be the cause of this sudden change in behaviour but the first thing that struck me could be that something has happened outside which has frightened your cat and he wants to get away from it and be somewhere where he can feel safe and secure.
Sometimes another cat moves into the area which causes trouble or it could simply be a loud bang which has frightened him.
At the end of the day all you can do is to either take him to the vets for a check up to make sure that he is ok physically and that ill health is not the cause. Or to ignore the behaviour and hope that whatever is causing the behaviour eases.
By the way I am allergic to cats too but have lived with them all my life. i find that after a while you become used to the particular cat you are living with and the symptoms ease or go away. Anti histamine tablets can also help in the short term, if you do what to let your cat inside for a while.
