Pairing cats in one household

Hi, I currently have one cat, but my girlfriend wants to get a cat. We to be living together within the next 6-8 months, and are wondering is it better to bring another females, or a male cat into a home with one female cat? Or, does it likely depend more on the individual cats.

Thanks!

Hi, well the advice is generally to get a cat of the opposite sex. So if you already have a female cat, then a male cat would be better. This prevents a lot of aggression.

if you do go ahead and get another cat there is a way to help the cat get used to each other. The process is described here on my web page
