Potty behavior for my 1 year old kitten

My cat is 1 year old and was litter box trained right away. Last week he started to do his business on the floor and on the bed. Any ideas why this is all of the sudden occuring. There have been no changes in our routine.

This is a common issue which can be quite complicated. The behavior is called middening and there is always a reason of one sort or another which has caused it. unfortunately for us humans it is not always apparent what.
