by Rhonda Cleavengr

My 10 year old fixed female cat is having leaking problems. its onl n small amouts. We think i might be menstral because it only happens for a little while. It has happened for the past couple of years, and we want to kno what is wrong. She also becomes more vocal and cries some during these 'times'.

Answer from Kate
Hi
if she is fixed then it will have nothing to do with a menstrual cycle as this won't happen any more.

When you say leak i'm not sure if you mean urine or other fluid.

If it is other fluid then this could indicate an internal infection which keeps reoccurring. If it is urine then this could suggest a weakening of the bladder. In either case you need to speak to your vet and this may need further investigation. It is not normal to have any sort of leaks and so does indicate that there is a problem which should be looked into in case it could get worse with age. better to see if something can be done sooner rather than later.

best wishes Kate
