Sad Kitten???

by Jennifer
(Boston)

I just adopted a 3 1/2 month old kitten the other day from a shelter. They said they had found him wandering the streets by himself. He was only at the shelter for a week before I adopted him. He was given all of his shots and was neutered the day before I got him. We brought him home and he is the sweetest little kitten and loves to play and cuddle. I know kittens sleep a lot during the day but when he is up and not playing he just kind of wanders around. He seems a little sad to me. I just wanted to know if this is normal for a kitten. I feel like I should be playing with him when he's awake so that he doesn't feel lonely. Any ideas?

i know exactly how you feel as i too adopted two kittens this year and I worry about them all the time, especially as you say when they looked bored.

At the end of the day i think a lot of the worry is just down to our own insecurities. As long as they are playing and eating etc normally then there are bound to be times when they just wander around.

The only thing you can do is to make sure you give them plenty of toys to play with and alternate these so as to stop boredom with them and also make sure you do give them some play time with you.

My two kittens are brothers so they are used to each other and play with each other but they still have periods through out the day when they look bored and stare at me as if to say now what?

Don't be tempted to think that getting another kitten will help, this is just not the case. cats are not pack animals and unless they have been brought up together there are no guarantees that they will get along.

i have some pages about keeping cats entertained etc in the home which you may find of further interest.
