salivation pouring from cat's mouth

by Laura Wirtanen

Our year old cat has been having unusual symptoms of saliva intermittantly pouring from his mouth. Every so often it will come out in a pool, as opposed to dripping or anything like that. His nose is also dripping. He is acting a little "off" but he has been purring and doesn't seem unusually sick. Should I be very concerned, take him to the emergency Sunday vet, or ?

I did notice that he had been in the fireplace yesterday and has soot all over his paws. Could licking this off cause any problems?
P.S. He is an indoor cat but the other two cats here go in and out.. He also has been acting very jumpy, jumping up like something bit him. I am very worried about him.
Please letme know anything at all.

Thank you,
Laura

Hi
Yes it could be that his nasal area has been irritated by the soot. If I were you I would see how she is on Monday (as long as her symptoms do not get any worse) and if the discharge is still happening I would take him to a vets just to be on the safe side.

Hopefully the discharge will wash away anything in the nose but if not then the vet may want to wash it out etc.

Hope he is better soon

best wishes Kate
