Scabs and Lose of Cat Hair

by Karen
(San Angelo Texas)

My calico is about 2 1/2 years old. About a year ago, I noticed some hair lose on her lower back, right above the tail. I figured it was stress due to the addition of 3 cats. It went away, after she got pregnant. Now it's back with the addition of scabs and lose of hair on her neck. She doesn't scratch or lick much. I don't know! I can't afford a vet right now , but if there is something over the counter, I will try it. If you believe it is something that the vet needs to see please tell me. I just hope it's not hurting her.

Thank you,

Hi If it were me i would take her to the vets as it really does need to be investigated properly. However I do have a web page about skin conditions and there are some products listed on there which you might want to consider. But as i say i think to be able to treat this properly you really do need a proper diagnosis.

As to whether or not it is hurting her well, if she scratches the scabs off that will hurt i would think and if she has a skin condition which is causing her irritation then that can become very uncomfortable too.

i hope you can find a solution soon

best wishes kate
