Shedding?

My cat sometimes has little tufts of hair that come out that have skin attached to the end. What is this? Is it normal?

Answer by KAte
Hi no this is not normal and is caused by the fur becoming matted. It gets to a point that the cat pulls them out and the skin comes with it. It is a very painful problem.

I am assuming your cat is long haired as this problem is most common in long haired cats although can happen in short hair sometimes.

Basically you will need to groom your cat at least 2 to 3 times a week to prevent these matts building up.

I have a web page about this issue which will be able to explain the process further
