skin problem

my cat has been scratching and black stuff has come off in the lower part of his back what cou;d the problem be

I'm not sure what you mean by black stuff but it could be the black flea dirts. the tail area is one of the main places fleas congregate and so if you are seeing a lot of scrating and little black specks then i would say that there is a flea problem.

You will have to treat your cat with a flea treat ment every month and possible give him a bath to kill off the fleas on him now. Also you will have to treat your home as they can live in the carpets for some time and reinfect the cat. please see my page about flea problems https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-fleas.html there are some suggested products there too to use in your home (see animated banner)
