Skittish cats

I have four outdoor cats and they only let me near them. I live in the country so I rarely have friends over. Sometimes they're home but other times they're out mousing. I'm moving soon so I have to find them homes. Is there anyway I can make them less scared of people? They're also kind of skinny so how can I make them a little fatter.

Hi
well my honest answer is no not really. Cats learn most of their social skills during the first 7 weeks of their lives. It cam be extremely difficult to change their behavior much.

If your cats are used to only you then it will take them some time to get used to someone else and even then they may never be very affectionate.

I would say that if you rehome them they really do need to go to someone who can look after them in a similar way to yourself. I.e allowed out most of the time etc.

As for them being skinny. Cats who go hunting and are out a lot often are thinner as they expel a lot more energy. As long as you are feeding them good quality food in sufficient amounts to them, then I wouldn't worry too much.

Best wishes and good luck in finding them new homes.

best wishes Kate
