Something To Care About

After thirty three years of marriage mine was about to end. My youngest daughter, who was away at college did not like me being in a big house alone. She surprised me by coming home for the weekend. She brought with her a tiny four week old Calico cat. I remember she was really frightened that I would be angry with her.

She needn't have worried, I fell in love with Ruby at first sight. She was so tiny she fit in the palm of my hand. The first night of her stay I set up a gate to keep her in one room. I wanted to be sure she would use a litter box. It was a two story house and she actually climbed the gate and made it to the top of the stairs and into my bedroom twice. I was afraid Ruby would hurt herself so I took the gate down and brought her in with me.

I was working long days and also taking a class one night a week. I felt Ruby would be alone to much. This led me to go back to the shelter and choose a friend for her. That is how I got Silver, a tiger cat also four weeks old.

Adopting Ruby and Silver not only rescued them it also rescued me. Both of my girls are very affectionate and love to sit on my lap and be petted. We have had ten great years together.
