spayed 3 yr old cat still howling

we got our female cat from animal rescue, she had been spayed but ever month or so she is howling and wanting out all the time. Is it possible that she is coming on heat?

The hormones which casue a cat to come into heat arn't produced anymore so it is unlikely that she is howling because of that. She may have heard or seen another cat outside and is just calling to them to let them know that she is there and that this is her territory.
