Spring is upon us and this is great news for both humans and animals alike, but beware there are dangers lurking out there which could actually harm your cat if you are not alert. This week the ASPCA has out an alert to responsible pet owners to make sure that their pets are safe. Here are the main points for us cat lovers out there.
Make sure that chocolate is not given to your cat over the Easter period. Normal chocolate is toxic to cats.
Make sure that cats don't chew any shiny paper or Easter wrappings. They can cause blockages and upset stomachs.
Now that the temperatures are warming up remember to screen upstairs open windows to prevent cats from falling out.
Keep harmful cleaning chemicals out of sight and out of reach of inquisitive kitties. Spring cleaning is supposed to be a good time not a time for sickness.
Make sure all chemicals and tins of paint kept in out building are locked away. Cats have a strange habit of licking these toxic substances which can be fatal.
Make sure that any garden chemicals and fertilizers are pet safe.
Make sure that there aren’t any poisonous plants about to pop their heads up this springtime. See here for a list of toxic plants.
Make sure that your cat is wormed and protected from fleas etc. This is the time of year when pests such as these are at there most aggressive
