the cats are very greedy and always come to the kitchen every time were in there,they came from a sanctuary with other cat smells around. is it possible that because of their lack of feeding at the sanctuary they are always trying to eat at any given moment despite the fact that we regularly feed them?

cats will always try and get that little bit extra food if they can. It doesn't mean their hungry it is just a habit they have got used to. My own cat Little Mo will alwasy run into the kitchen when i go there just in habit. You have to be strong and only feed them their regular meals otherwise you could end up with overweight cats.
