Pretty Snickers

Tribute To Snickers
1997-2010

You came to me three years ago
A Freezing, hungry pet
Someone tossed you in the cold
No regard for you or regret.

A kindly neighbor found you
and called me up to ask
“Can you take in this homeless cat”?
Would you please do this task?

I didn't hesitate a bit
I rushed right to your side.
I took you in and loved you so
with me, you did abide.

You bought with you, your daughter, Smores
Another tossed out pet
You both moved in and stole my heart
That choice, I don't regret.

For three short years, you lived with me
Filling my days with joy
I loved to watch your Cat-A-Tude
You certainly was never coy.

What a vocal gal you was
You voiced your feline demands
It did no good to scold you
You ignored all my commands.

You was a feisty girl for sure
No one reined over you
Whatever Snickers wanted
was what we had to do.

You ruled the house and walked so proud
You always had your way
Food surely was your greatest joy
You showed that everyday.

You was a girl on up in years
when you first came to me
I wanted us to share many years
Too few. The number three.

At age 13, you showed the signs
Old age had come along
You wasn't feeling your old self
I knew something was wrong.

Off to the vet we went one day
New medicine, to you, they gave
I had high hopes you would get well
My Snickers, I must save.

And all too soon, you showed the signs
Your body had slowed down
I watched you lose your feline glow
It made me wear a frown.

And then one night, you just laid down
So weak and oh so frail
You refused to play and walk about
You no longer held up your tail.

Your legs was weak and wobbled much
And yet you tried to walk
your once loud verbal skills had ceased
You tried but could not talk.

It was then that I truly realized
the task I had to do
To help you cross the bridge in peace
I owed this gift to you.

You bought me so much love and joy
In our very short three years.
I knew you had to leave me now
It caused me many tears

And so I helped you cross the bridge
Into the bright sunset.
No longer would you walk in pain
But now a healthy pet.

I think that God must have called you back
To be with the ones gone on before
Callie, Baby and Salem too
all met you at the door.

I'm thankful for the time we had
and the joy you gave to me.
I never will regret a single day
that you have spent with me.

I'm glad you now are free of pain
Inside of Heavens doors.
You left to me the greatest gift
Your pretty daughter, Smores.

And so this tribute I send to you
Sweet Snickers, friend of mine
You will live on inside my heart
Until the end of time.

Sadly missed by Mama, Smores and
all your feline family.
