Using bathroom on bed

My cat is about 10 months old (we think, he was a rescue). He's an indoor cat, an only pet, and he's always behaved really well. However, in the past two days he has gone straight to my mom's bed as soon as the door is opened to pee or poop on it. He's not having trouble using his litter box and we haven't changed the type of litter. A friend of my mom's said that we should neuter him to fix the problem. Obviously we're keeping him out of her room but we're worried that he'll start doing it elsewhere. Should we neuter him or is there something else going on?

Hi well yes having him neutered will help to make him less territorial and this is part of the issue here.

beds are often a favourite place for them to do this as it smells most strongly of us and this is comforting but they are also trying to add their scent to it too.

please see my page about this here

The advice on the page about using the confinement method will also help after you have him neutered.

best wishes kate
