very aggressive

My cat has been with us almost a year. She has always loved our dog- they even sleep toghther at night. All of a sudden today the cat goes crazy screeching and hissing everytime she sees the dog. It's out of the blue and I'm worried about her around my kids. They play all of the time never aggressivley. Could something major be wrong?

It could be something called trauma aggression. It is caused when something frightens the cat and they blame the fear on another animal. it could have been a loud noise or having their tail trod on etc.

the best option is to reintroduce the cat and dog to each other again in a controlled environment. please see my page about introducing cats to each other, the process works with dogs too.

it is worth doing as it helps to build confidence in each animal again.
