Weight of kitten

I have 2 male kittens that I adopted together at 6weeks of age. They are brothers and have been fixed. They are now almost 7 months old and eat the same food, purina one kitten food. My question is their weight. One is about 8 lbs and the other is 11 lbs. Should I worry that the 11 lb kitten is too fat? They are both fed at the same times each day and I give them each 1/4 cup of food 3 times a day.

If my math is right then 1b s 4.9kg and this is too heavy for a cat of his age.

I have to brothers who are now 18 months old. one is slim and normal while the other has always been heavier even though they ate the same food. Of course kittens from the same litter can have different fathers and so a different genetic makeup.
However now it seems that the heavier cat is slimming down an it may have simply been baby fat.ut he was never as heavy as 4.9kg not even now.

My advice would be to measure out the cats daily food allowance and keep it in an airtight container and feed only this amount to the two cats. This way you will know that you are not over feeding.

Also encourage your kitten to run around and play, a over weight cat is less likely to want to play but its worth while trying to make them.

If his weight continues to grow, it would be a good idea to have him checked over by a vet to ensure that their are no other possible causes for his weight gain.

best wishes kate
