why is my dog insisting on licking my pregnant cats rear?

Our cat is close to giving birth and our dog won't stop licking her butt. The cat isn't bothered by it but my wife is.

umm why are dogs so fascinated with area of their bodies. I guess it must purely be based on scent, something which animals regard highly on their social etiquette etc.

Exactly why your dog is doing this I could not say. Your cat be be smelling differently to her normal self and this has enticed your dog in some way.

I know it is not pleasant but I don't think there is much harm. You could just try to dissuade her when she is doing this just in case she causes soreness.
