Hi
Firstly you don't need to do anything regarding the birth, leave this to mother nature.
yes the mother cats behaviour changes during this time, this is natural. She may be feeling very uncomfortable and apprehensive.
The best thing to do for her is to make sure she has somewhere where she can get away from every thing and be alone in the quite. A lined box under the bed is often chosen by a cat before birth, but ultimately she will decide where she wants to be.
As for the fleas. As soon as the kittens are born. contact your local vets for advice on which flea treatment to use at this time. fleas can be very dangerous for young kittens and can kill them due to loss of blood and anaemia. So this does need to be sorted out soon after the birth. but find out from the vet which is the safest product to use with a nursing mother and young kittens.
best wishes Kate
