my cat bites her tail often but not all the time sometimes it bleeds

Hi well this could be caused by a mite problem or an allergy. these are the first two things to check out, a vet may be better placed to help you with either of these.

In some cases there is no physical cause and it is neurological, this is rarer but again the vet will be able to help with this if this is a possibility.

Sounds like the poor cat is in some distress though if she bites so hard that it bleeds, my instinct says there is definitely a physical cause as above.

I have web pages about both of these possibilities for more information

best wishes Kate
