Cat leaks diarrhea

by Dawn Cuellar

We adopted a 2 1/2 cat from a shelter. She has had leukemia and the aids test and she's ok. She's had all her shots. She was tested for worms and does not have them. She has had diarrhea since we have had her. We tried not giving her food for 24 hours and have given her many different variety of foods including zd but nothing has worked. She has not vomited and she looks very healthy and is a good weight and eats well. Can you give advice?

Hi
well could be simply down to the change of environment which has upset her stomach or even the different sorts of food you have tried.

My advice would be to give her plain food again for another couple of days and then to slowly replace with a brand of cat food you are going to stick too. changing a cats diet too often can also cause upsets.

Make sure she is also drinking plenty of water and not cows milk as this can cause diarrhea too as cats are intolerant to lactose.

There is more general advice about cat diarrhea on my page here

If it continues after this then it may be a good idea to speak to the animal shelter again for some more advice, they may even be able to get their vet to see her again.
