Cat Losing Hair

My yellow male neutered cat is losing his hair on his back next to his tail, on his lower half of his tummy and a few spots on his back legs. We treat him with frontline flea medicine. We don't see anything on him but he scratches often. His skin is not red or raw looking, just sort of balding. He is about 5 years old and very playful. He eats his food and treats good and anything he can get of people food.

Answer from Kate
Hi
There are several possible reasons for this behavior, either it is caused by over grooming caused by some distress or it is parasite or allergic reaction to something.

In situations like this your only real option is to have a vet take a look at the area and to take some possible skin scrapings etc. Often a vet will be able to see the problem from just seeing the area.

I have a couple of pages on my site which you may find of further interest here

Hope the vet can sort your cats problem out quickly for him as it must be distressing for him too.

best wishes Kate
