my kittens don't meow- is this normal?

I have just acquired 2 rescue kittens aged 6 months. They meowed a few times when we got them but now do not meow at all. They purr and seem content and are otherwise normal. Should I be worried?

No don't worry, some cats are just more vocal than others. I have two 10 month kittens which I have had since they were four months old. Only one will meow occasionally, usually when he wants to come in. The other one has hardly made a sound but I know he can when he wants to.

Cats will often adapt there communication and use all sorts of ways to talk to you, through smiling with their eyes, rubbing round you, having their own way of telling you that they want something. Meowing is just one method and not all cats choose to use this as their main form of communication.

best wishes kate
