Old Cat now very thin

by Virginia Pullen
(North London)

My female cat is almost 18 and the longest living cat we have had but she is now terribly skinny although she eats a lot. sHE HAS BEEN WORMED AND DEFLEAD but she screams a lot mainly in the early hours of the morning and paces about. She won't go out in the garden as any noise frightens her is this just old age as she appears to have bright eyes and her toilet is normal?

Well yes old cats can become skinny with old age and also the behaviour you describe is also common. I have a web page here about senior cats which you might find of interest. here is the page

I would however get her checked by the vet regarding the weight loss, this can often be a sign of a underlining illness such as diabetes or a thyroid problem.

best wishes Kate
