Perplexed about my cats behavior

Why does our 5 month old kitten accept my wife, but she runs away from me. I'm the one that feeds her, etc.

Ok this is a tricky one. It could be that your cat sees you as the fun and your wife as the comfort. It's funny but the very same thing is happening to my parents in law. they have a kitten who will curl up on Jill but run around like mad from ted. But then again ted is the one who has always played games with her and so she sees everything he does as a game and this could be happening with you.

She may not be running away from you in a frightened way but is saying chase me, play with me.

This will be a difficult habit to break, you could try some bonding exercises with her. this entails sitting on the floor with her and playing with string (not your hands and no chasing games whereby you try to grab her and pick her up).
