Cypher wont stop meowing

by Jay

Cypher is a 7 month old male, when he was about 5 months he all of a sudden started meowing a lot. As soon as I get into the apartment hallway after work i can hear him meowing, so I come in and thinking it wants affection I will pet him, he will be silent for about a minute then walk away and start meowing as though it wants me to walk around with him while petting. Thinking maybe he wants to play i'll start playing with him, using a laser light or something else and he'll be up for it for about 2 minutes then he'll just lye there and watch, if i stop the meowing continues. He is usually asleep when I goto bed but as soon as my alarm goes off I can hear him meowing outside my bedroom door and will continue meowing until I leave for work. (sorry for the novel story)

Hi
You have not mentioned if he is neutered or not. I suspect not as his behaviour is very indicative of a male cat who is wanting to find a mate.

It is very common for a male cat to be very vocal all the time when they are looking for mates and it can be very random i.e no other cats around.

If he is not neutered then I would suggest having him fixed as soon as possible. It will help to calm him down and stop his frustrations and meowing behaviour.

I do have a page about varies cat calls which you may find of interest here https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-meowing.html

best wishes KAte
