How to introduce new cats to existing pets

by lorraine

my daughter has moved back home bringing her two cats with her, one male and one female. I already have a female cat age 3 years and a kitten 6 months. the problem is the male keeps attacking my 3 year old cat and stalking her though she hisses and growls at him he does not back off. It is making her miserable and wary so she hides in the airing cupboard all day, reluctant to come out. I honestly do not know what to do save re home him

Hi
It is important that a level of trust is built up between cats in a secure controlled fashion when they are first introduced. this reduces the fear between them and helps them to get along. Having said that of course there are no guarantees and your cats may never be true friends but only tolerate each other with the occasional hiss and swipe.

The process for introducing cats is described here on my web page https://www.our-happy-cat.com/introducing-cats.html

It may seem a slow process but it is the only way to allow cats to get used to each other without fear of attack etc.

hope things settle down for you all soon
best wishes Kate
