not sure if she is ill or if it's signs that she's about to go into heat

My 4 year old female cat, Zooey who is not fixed has been acting funny lately. She usually loves to get her wet food at night, but lately snubs her nose at it and only eats her dry food. I feel like she's been drinking lots of water lately, and friends that know her pretty well have commented on her losing weight. She has always been very affectionate and loving especially towards me, but lately she is attached to me. She constantly lays on my lap, and is constantly trying to get me to go back to bed. She will run upstairs and get into the bed and meow at me to get back in with her. When I am in bed she crawls under the covers which is not usual for her and meow softly as if whining or crying. She curls up very tightly and presses herself against me as if trying to get warmth. Please help. I'm not sure if this is signs of sickness or maybe if she's about to go into heat, as she's done a few of these things before but never to these extremes or for this long without finally going into heat.

Hi Bert
well the symptoms you describe could be attributed to either pregnancy or ill health. Although for me i would lean more towards the ill heath. i think it is the excessive drinking of water and the loss of weight.

I would really recommend that you have her checked over by a vet either way. if she is pregnant then she should not be losing weight and needs to be built up or if she is ill will need treatment for whatever is wrong with her.

She is a beautiful cat and I do hope she is back to her old self soon.

best wishes Kate
