Attitude Change / Drastic in my cat

Our cat has changed, like over night, into a growling , hissing little monster. She normally is sweet and playful, even though she does not like to be picked up or held for any reason. Her eyes even look dark for some reason, which are normally yellow, but now look black? This has us very concerned, but we can't afford to take her to the vet and pay out a $1,000.00 to be checked out. Can anyone tell us what in the world happened to her. She is a house cat, she does not like strangers. It is like she has a mental problem, a tumor perhaps?? We can't get her to come around us now/ she runs off growling! Help

It sounds like she may either have been frightened by something or she may be in pain. Cats willreact in a aggressive manner in both of these situations.
My advice would be to let her have her own space for a day and see if she calms down. Then see if she will come to you as normal, dont try and force her into anything as this will just make things worse.
If she is still the same and/ or other symptoms appear then you will have to take her to the vet. A check up doesn't cost the earth and could prevent your cat from suffering etc.
