Cat Licking Spine.

by Makayla Anderson

Why does my cat lick himself whenever i touch any part of him spine? And why does he lick himself so much that he has a bald spot now. He has fleas, and the is is so much flea feces that that's basically all you see, but only on the back of his spine. Also, he is shedding very easily, and alot at one time. Is this something i should worry about?

Hi
yes this is something to worry about. Fleas can cause anemia in cats as well as some other viruses and so needs to be treated urgently.

if he has a severe infestation he needs to have a gently bath in special flea shampoo and then afterwards the flea spot on treatment needs to be given to him once a month to keep him flea free. You will also have to treat your home as it is very likely that they are there too and if not treated will keep reinfecting your cat.

Please see this page for more on treating fleas on your cat and also in your home
