My cat dips his paw in water

by Elaine
(Reno)

My cat frequently dips his paw in his water dish (or outside puddle) and licks it. This goes on for several minutes. Could this be that he has a sore paw?

Hi
No i don't think he has a sore paw. My cat does this too. i think it is because they can't see the surface of the water and so test it with their paw first.

My cat Shelley likes to put his paw under a dripping tap and then licks the water off of it.

best wishes Kate

cat LOVES playin with water
by: Roisin

my cat seems to love playin with water, from the bathtub, sinks, puddles and bath taps!! It started when after a shower he would run in and jump in the bath and lick the water den discovered the sink tap when we were washing our teeth and started to lick it and hit the water with his paw, its quite endearing really, always looks so confused! and now he will just jump into the bathtub and wait for me to turn on the tap so he can play with the water!!

Funny creatures they are, its my first cat and has given me so much pleasure.

My cat does this too!

I want to toilet train my cat, but he likes to dip his paws in all kinds of water.. including the toilet :( Sometimes I forget to put the toilet sesat down, so I constantly have to wash his paws! I can't toilet him either. Is there a way to teach him not to do this?
