Persian Lip Smacking

by Melissa

My 10 year old Persian has been smacking his lips constantly for about 2 weeks now. He usually does this when he has a hairball forming, though he usually throws up with in a week.

I am wondering if there could be another reason why. Is it possible that he has a toothache? Or he is thirsty due to renal cysts?
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

Hi
generally cat lip smacking is an indication that the cat wants to vomit. So if he suffers from hairballs regularly this could be why he does this lip smacking often too.

Persian cats as you know need lots of grooming to keep their coat looking good and also to help prevent hairballs forming. Their are also some things you can give your cat to try and help hairballs pass more easily too. Please see my page for more information about cat hairballs here.
