What does my cat have?

by Lynne
(Victorville, CA)

Male cat approximately 10 1/2 years old. In the past year has had repeated episode of patches of hair loss from constant chewing. Looks like it's been shaved. Have tried different fungal ointments and some anti biotic creams. Gets better for a short while and returns. He also has been rubbing his buttock across the floor mostly after using the restroom. I have given him worm medication a few times, but he only quits doing it for a short period of time. I have also notice weight loss over the past year. Are all these symptoms connected and what could he possibly have?

Hi well I am not a vet and so cannot give you a diagnosis.

As the systems have gone on for so long I wonder if he has an allergy of some sort. See my cat allergy page

https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-allergy.html

I would not like to say whether or not the weight loss is connected. there are medical conditions such as thyroid problems which can cause this.

if I were you i would want to have him checked out to make sure that there are no underlining illnesses there, especially as he is now 10. the vet will also be able to give some advice about the hair loss.

I hope he is is OK again soon

best wishes kate
