Constipated cat?

My usually very active 2 year old cat has been pooping and peeing right outside his litter box. We put him in the bathroom while we were gone and we came back and he had thrown up and he was just laying in the bathroom (usually he would run out) He finally walked out and I picked him up and he made a terrible growling sound so I put him down and he stayed in the same position for about 5 minutes. My other cat came over and he started growling at the other cat. He was trying to roll on his side to lick his butt which he has been doing a lot and it must have been painful cause he was doing it slowest and was like making this weird noise. He threw up again and then walked over and jumped up on the couch like he was ok. So confused as to why is going on. Has anyone had a similar experience?
