How to stop cat using flower beds as toilet

we have an out side cat how can we keep her from using the flower bed as a bathroom?

i believe there are no guaranteed way of preventing this, but there are two things I have suggested to people in the past which has helped.

One is to spray the area with a citrus scent, lemon juice and water say. or you can buy some special crystals I believe that you sprinkle around the flower beds. however I have never tried this myself. You probably can get them from gardening suppliers.

The other option is to hang shiny or noisy items nearby. My neighbour hangs old cd's around the bottom of her bushes, she says it keeps the cats away.
