inappropriate elimination by my cat

Our 3 year old neutered cat recently (within the past week) began urinating throughout the house in and on inappropriate areas, ie. on my kitchen table, on clothes, rugs, etc. He still uses the litterbox too. We have had Garth for 2 years and the problem developed suddenly with no known triggers. His litterbox is cleaned regularly. We are at a loss! Any ideas you could give would be greatly appreciated.
